Event Description

About Lhabab Duchen

Lhabab Duchen, one of the most significant Buddhist holy days, commemorates the Buddha’s compassionate return from the heavenly realm of Tushita to the human world. According to Buddhist tradition, after attaining enlightenment and sharing the Dharma on Earth, Buddha ascended to Tushita to repay the kindness of his mother, Queen Mayadevi, by teaching her and other celestial beings the profound path to liberation.

On this day, the Buddha’s descent symbolizes the perfect union of wisdom and compassion. His return underscores his boundless commitment to guiding all beings, whether human or celestial, toward enlightenment.

Lhabab Duchen is a time for practitioners to deepen their connection to the Dharma. Acts of virtue performed on this day—such as meditation, offerings, and reciting prayers—are believed to be greatly multiplied, offering an opportunity for profound spiritual progress.

This auspicious occasion inspires gratitude for the Buddha’s teachings and reminds us of our potential to awaken to wisdom, compassion, and enlightenment in our own lives.

A Tsog Offering will be offered at the center in observance of this holy day. All are welcome to join in person or via Zoom.
