The principle of the Padma family (Lotus family) of the five Buddha family and Pure Land Buddhism. His body is red in color. He keeps his hands in the Dhyani (Dhyana) Mudra: the mudra of meditation. Buddha Amitabha is called "the Buddha of immeasurable light and life" and is invoked in practices asking for longevity and prevention of an untimely death. His secret mantra is Om Amideva Hrih (Shrih).
